Interdisciplinary Research on Emotions in Neuroscience and Philosophy

Stephan Schleim, M.A.

I studied philosophy, psychology, and computer science at the University of Mainz, Germany, where I graduated in 2005. With a main focus on philosophy of mind and experimental psychology, I wrote my master’s thesis about mental causation. Dr. Walter’s lab is an ideal place to combine my philosophical and psychological interests, because my project consists in investigating the contribution of emotions to processes of moral decision making: is the activation of emotional brain areas epiphenomenal or causally relevant for the decision? Besides my empirical research in the lab, I still pursue my interests in metaphysics and ethics, especially neuroethics, and am also interested in scientific journalism and martial arts.
